Brent Beauchamp Wins at Bloomington Ahead of Indiana Sprint Week

Friday night racing at Bloomington Speedway’s red clay oval served as the final opportunity for teams to perfect their setups before Indiana Sprint Week arrives on July 28th. The Sprint Car division attracted 18 entries with qualifying fast times recorded by Brayden Fox (12.344), Geoff Ensign (12.082), and Max Adams (12.086).

Sterling Cling claimed Heat 1 from his outside front row starting position, holding off Jake Swanson, Matt Thompson, and Brayden Fox. Brady Short secured Heat 2 ahead of Jordan Kinser and Geoff Ensign. In Heat 3, Brent Beauchamp mirrored Cling’s strategy, winning from the outside front row over Max Adams, Harley Burns, and Michael Daugherty.

A five-position invert for the main event positioned Max Adams and Jordan Kinser on the front row. While Adams and Kinser started strong, Beauchamp and Swanson quickly advanced from the second row. Swanson took the early lead, working the cushion to move from fourth to first within the opening laps.

After leading approximately five circuits on the top groove, Swanson faced a challenge from Beauchamp’s #11, who utilized the bottom lane effectively to close the gap on the 5T. Beauchamp ultimately seized the lead and displayed remarkable consistency, hitting his marks lap after lap on the bottom groove. Swanson explored multiple racing lines in his pursuit but couldn’t reclaim the top spot.

Beauchamp secured the victory, followed by Jake Swanson, Geoff Ensign (advancing from eighth), Jordan Kinser, Max Adams, and Matt Thompson. This race provided crucial information for teams as they prepare for Sprint Week, which offers an $8,000 winner’s purse each night this year.

UMP Modifieds Feature Packed Field of Competitors

The UMP Modified division drew 16 entries, featuring an impressive lineup of talent. Qualifying group fast times were recorded by John Demoss (13.140) and Jacoby Hines (13.139), demonstrating the exceptional competitiveness in Indiana’s modified ranks with merely one-thousandth of a second separating them.

Derek Losh charged from third to win Heat 1 over John Demoss, Tyler Loughmiller, and Caleb Demoss. Jacoby Hines took Heat 2 ahead of Logan Mounce, Jeff Deckard, and Jack Dossey.

A single-position invert for the feature set up a front-row battle between Derek Losh and Jacoby Hines that lived up to expectations. The #115 of Hines continued his impressive streak of success, looking particularly strong throughout the race. Hines maintained his winning momentum with a commanding victory over the formidable Losh, followed by John Demoss, Logan Mounce, and Jordan Wever.

UMP Super Stocks Showcase Boknecht’s Dominance

Thirteen UMP Super Stocks competed, with qualifying fast times set by Derek Groomer (13.567) and Jeff Allen (13.963). UMP points leader Josh Litton won Heat 1 from the pole over Greg Amick, Derek Groomer, and Reece Novak. Matt Boknecht claimed Heat 2 ahead of Zach Sasser, Isaiah Sasser, and Jeff Allen.

The feature utilized a single-position invert, placing the heat winners on the front row. Matt Boknecht proved once again why he’s a threat whenever he starts near the front, taking the early lead and building a substantial advantage. Boknecht drove to another 2023 victory in the 20-lap main event, with Derek Groomer, Greg Amick, Josh Litton, and Isaiah Sasser completing the top five.

IMCA 305 Racesavers Run Double Features

The IMCA 305 Racesaver division brought 25 entries to the track, with qualifying fast times recorded by Justin Matthews (11.663), Ethan Barrow (11.418), and Carson Dillion (11.605). The evening began with a makeup feature from May, where Jordan Welch secured victory over Keith Langley, John Paynter Jr., Ethan Barrow, and Bradley Sterrett.

For the regular program, heat races advanced the top five finishers directly to the A-main, with five more transferring from the B-main. Cody Trammell won Heat 1 over John Paynter Jr. and Dillan Baldwin. Ethan Barrow charged from fourth to win Heat 2 ahead of Trey Burke and Kerry Kinser. Andy Bradley claimed Heat 3 over Jeff Wimmenauer and Carson Dillion. The B-main saw Bradley Sterrett take the win, with John Wolforth, Bryce Norris, Ivan Glotzbach, and Tyson Lady also transferring.

A five-position invert for the 20-lap feature positioned Trey Burke and John Paynter Jr. on the front row. While Burke, the Texas native, showed early strength alongside Paynter, their time at the front proved brief as Heat 3 winner Andy Bradley charged forward. Bradley quickly took command in his #21x and soon approached lapped traffic. Fifth-starting Cody Trammell moved into second position and attempted to chase down Bradley, but the leader’s pace proved too strong to overcome. Andy Bradley secured a convincing victory over Cody Trammell, Ethan Barrow, John Paynter Jr., and Trey Burke.

Bloomington Speedway management extends appreciation to all racing teams for their outstanding performances on this hot evening at the red clay oval. Racing returns in two weeks on July 28th with Indiana Sprint Week, featuring the 305 Racesavers as the supporting division.
